Starting point:

The special vehicle manufacturer Metz Aerials in Karlsruhe, which has been in existence for more than 150 years, is a manufacturer of turntable ladder vehicles and aerial rescue platforms for mobile fire protection and rescue and disaster management. Among the customers are professional, works and volunteer fire brigades operating worldwide.

The vehicles of the height rescue distinguish themselves in the market by highest quality and constant reliability, which proves itself again and again under most extreme situations. The products always perform reliably both in icy temperatures in Siberia and in the extreme heat of the Arab world, which has enabled thousands of people to be saved. Continuous product development and adaptation to changing customer requirements are characteristics of the globally recognized company in the Rosenbauer Group.

Target achievement:

The company Kloepfel Consulting was commissioned to critically review the delivery conditions arising from historically established supply relationships and to set up new suppliers. Through targeted discussions with the existing suppliers, the purchasing conditions should be scrutinized in order to discover hidden savings potential. The delivery conditions could be significantly optimized by showing technically oversized product areas, which then reduced costs by using cheaper materials while maintaining the same quality. It was also possible to achieve further price reductions through benchmarks with alternative suppliers as well as the display of planned quantities.

Overall, new suppliers from Germany and abroad were introduced in various product groups, which are now being built up successively with the customer and are also making a significant contribution to improving earnings. Challenges include in particular the very high demands on quality and release of the materials to be purchased, as they have to withstand decades of use in the fire brigade’s rescue service to save life and limb under the most difficult conditions.

A special feature of the project is the excellent and exemplary cooperation with all departments such as development, production and sales as well as in particular the purchasing department of Metz.
