StreetScooter GmbH forms joint venture with Chery

After Deutsche Post DHL Group presented the 10,000th StreetScooter in Germany last week, the next milestone will follow this week. The environmentally friendly e-transporters will soon be launched in China as well. In the presence of German Chancellor Angela Merkel, StreetScooter GmbH and the Chinese automobile manufacturer Chery Holding Group signed a memorandum of understanding, which resolves to set up a joint venture. For Chancellor Merkel, the joint venture is part of the joint economic agreement with China.

“The entry into the Chinese market is an important milestone in the still young history of StreetScooter. Together with our partner Chery, we are very much looking forward to developing the largest market for electric commercial vehicles, introducing our energy, logistics and fleet solutions and localizing the added value. With Japan and China, StreetScooter is already present in the two most important economies of Asia,” says Jörg Sommer, CEO of StreetScooter GmbH.

The joint venture partner Chery is one of the leading Chinese automobile manufacturers and has a market share of 20 percent in the area of commercial vehicles with electric drive. Yin Tongyue, CEO of the Chery Holding Group, is also looking forward to the joint project: “The close cooperation between Chery and StreetScooter will create opportunities for both sides to develop the world market, especially in the EU and China. It will also support Chery in further accelerating the development of innovative solutions based on new energies and intelligent coupling, outperforming traditional propulsion vehicles. Chery will actively integrate globally unique resources and know-how through open collaboration and customer-oriented unique selling propositions and offerings.”
