Sales of small cars generally decreased

The sale of the Smarts with combustion engine was already stopped in North America in 2017. Now the E-Smart will no longer be sold in Canada and the USA.

The reason for this is that the Group is pursuing the increase in sales of the larger e-models. In addition, the market for small cars is shrinking in both countries. This was announced by Daimler subsidiary Mercedes Benz.

Another problem is the excessive cost of adapting the model to US regulations. Spare parts and maintenance for the Smart will continue to be offered.

Compact cars less popular

The EQC all-terrain vehicle shall be launched at the beginning of next year. With this model Mercedes wants to be able to meet the quotas for emission-free vehicles in California and other US states.

According to the company, only 90 vehicles were sold in the USA in March – a decline of 18 percent compared to the same period last year.

Sales figures for small cars have generally declined in recent years. Due to lower gasoline prices and a strong economy, platform and off-road vehicles were preferred.
