Problems with headlights

Due to a problem with headlights, Volkswagen has to call numerous cars back to the workshops in the US market. This will affect a total of 662,185 Passat and Atlas models built from 2012 onwards. This was announced on Monday by the US traffic authority NHTSA.

In fact, it is a component that may be missing, which affects the headlamp setting and can sometimes lead to poorer visibility and increased risk of accidents. To be more precisely the so-called “blocking cap” is allegedly missing. It should fix the headlamp after it has been aligned horizontally during production.

Oncoming drivers could be blinded by accidentally changing the horizontal position of the headlamp. In addition, the headlamp would not illuminate the areas of the road where safety is at risk, but the roadside or the adjacent lane.

Owners can have the headlamps replaced free of charge by authorized US dealers from 10 July.
